I don't think that 'Linaro chose a name'. This has been the default in Actions Semi's SDK and LeMaker seem to chose to readjust that to the correct name again (nice, since LeMaker users trying to replace this logo will just have to do a simple web search for 'replace linux boot logo' and are done).
And this shows clearly what's wrong with devices not being supported by mainline kernel but only by a vendor's SDK containing proprietary kernel/u-boot additions: A fragmentation of the community since LeMaker patches things differently as xapp-le does. I hope the Lemon Pi guys won't do the same since all 3 boards are featurewise exactly identical regarding kernel/u-boot requirements.
If it starts this way in this early stage then something like the linux-sunxi community that evolved around Allwinner SoCs will never happen with S500/S900.
Funny that you show a picture containing a listing of PPM images. At the start of the thread you tried to provide example PPMs (surprisingly containing your company's logo). Why didn't you provide the URL to the github repository where you found these PPMs?
While I still don't believe ric96 tried to modify this logo it would be great if you share your insights with the community (pointing at the differences between Actions Semi's unmodified and LeMaker's readjusted kernel sources that make a differentiation necessary: http://wiki.linux-xapple.org/w/index.php?title=Customizing_Boot_Logos_in_U-Boot_and_Kernel&action=edit -- and try to provide your company's logo at least 3 times as an example!)
